Self-Made, 2017

custom birch tables, 300+ wine glasses, water, soundscape.

“Self-Made” is a sculptural installation engaging in touch and sound created by Sydney Gush, one of the 8 senior Studio Art majors participating in the Capstone Exhibition at Gettysburg College.

Over 300 wine glasses were fixed onto five artist-designed and built birch tables that seem to slide in and out of the surrounding walls. A short composition of glass harp frequencies plays eerily throughout, amplified by the acoustics of the wooden structures. Viewers were invited to dip their fingers in a Polish Pottery water bowl and create music together by running their fingers on the lips of the glasses.

Each glass generates different sounds depending on size and placement, creating resonate frequencies that allow oneself to enter the mindscape that is “Self-Made”.
